Naturhistorisches Museum

Avoid this place if you're squeamish about stuffed animals. But if you don't mind saying hello to some petrified birds and beasties - several thousand of them in fact - put this one on your list. As it goes, Vienna's Natural History Museum can give London's more famous counterpart a good run for its money. In fact, the Viennese version is much our favourite of the two. The museum really is vast, and the variety of exhibits mind-boggling. Besides our stuffed friends (including everything from monkeys to birds of paradise) savour such wonders as fossilized swordfish, dinosaurs and some nasty looking giant crabs that would win a part in King Kong. Fantastic. | |
