Rathaus website

For many, the Rathaus is the most fetching landmark on the entire Ringstrasse. A thrusting neo-gothic confection that was founded in 1872, the Towh Hall houses the chief offices of the mayor and the city council. However, whilst a lot of earnest work is rumoured to go on inside, it's not all deadly serious. There's a hearty tavern in the cellars below, as well as guided tours of the historic interiors. Best of all, the square in front (Rathausplatz) hosts the much-loved winter skating rink. Here too will be the major viewing screen for Euro 2008, when a stretch for 200, 000 revellers will come into action.
