Hardly a bohemian spot, today's Imperial seems rather more suited to a power-broking session. But it's certainly not without its charms. The cafe is famous for the eponymous 'Imperial Torte,' which was initially rustled up as a tribute to Emperor Franz Joseph. This legendary chocolate, almond and marzipan creation makes the cafe a must for sweet-toothed travellers, and although you'll find the cake elsewhere, somehow it seems slightly silly not to try it here. Bear in mind though that if you venture off into a la carte territory, you're liable to burn a fairly painful hole in your pocket. The best thing about the Cafe Imperial is the lavish art deco bathroom, the kind of place where a femme fatale spy would do away with her hapless lover. Something for Mr. Kubrick....
