Cafe Sacher

Fisticuffs are perhaps unlikely, but you can expect a fair fight for seats at this legend of the Vienna cafe scene. The anecdotes come thick and fast, but it's the Torte itself that remains the main prize. Such is the fame of the venerable sachertorte that specimens are regularly dispatched across the world to admiring tortologists, or should we say chocohologists. But what of the actual venue? Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sacher's does have a slightly unreal flavour, it's a tad like a very fancy museum gift shop. But you don't have to linger, if Mother Nature is in a good mood you can pick up a piece from the till and spirit it away to the nearby Burggarten. |
