Steirereck

Steirereck has upped sticks and flitted over to a fin-de-siecle pavilion in the Stadtpark. It's a family affair, and the Reitbauers have raised this restaurant to the peak of the game - gourmets anxious not to miss out on any of the hot Viennese names should put this one high on their lists. Steirereck literally means 'A Corner of Styria' and the Reitbauers offer contemporary twists on Styrian dishes, complemented by winners from the wider Austrian orbit. Besides a bountiful wine cellar, the Reitbauers proudly wheel out a cheesemeister selection that's unparalleled in Wien, so save some room for kase. Booking is essential in summer months.

We just semi casually made a reservation for this place after reading rave reviews on chowhound. This is by far the most outstanding restaurant I have ever been in, and the service stellar, with no attiude. Simply well executed and all steps thought out from start to finish. Spectacular, though of course, a bit pricey!

Excellent. We certainly put on a stone or two at this restaurant - but surely that's what holidays are for! Excellent wine too. Recommended.
