Walter Bauer

|
Although not an aggressively trendy spot, Walter Bauer will lay on an inspirational voyage into Vienna's culinary galaxy. The charming, soft-spoken patron is a fine ambassador for Austrian cuisine. He runs a tight yet homely ship, creating a sense of occasion without any overbearing pomposity. What's more, whilst Mr Bauer's contemporary twists on classic dishes are inventive, he doesn't rustle up the kind of silly dishes that sometimes grace French menus. Book a table for someone you want to treat, and yes, that could be yourself if you're feeling especially self-indulgent. Not cheap, but memorable for all the right reasons. |

This was probably the best restaurant we ate at during our stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
