That's right - it's on its way. The 500 day countdown began yesterday for Euro 2008, with scores of enthusiasts descending on City Hall for a celebration of the coming competition.
The 'Host City Charter' was signed with UEFA by the four Austrian cities taking part in the cup (Vienna, Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Innsbruck) and a laser show lit up the night sky.
The first clash of the competition will be held by co-hosts Switzerland with a match at Basel on June 7th, 2008. However, it's Vienna that gets the cherry on the cake, with two quarter-finals, a semi and the grand final itself (Ernst Happel Stadium, June 29th, 2008).
Suffice it to say that Vienna Life can hardly wait till kick off, even though the official mascots and slogan ('Expect Emotions') are not going to go down in history as classics of the kind. But let's not nit-pick. Roll on 2008!
