Ernst Happel Stadion

|
Formerly known as the Praterstadion, Austria's largest stadium was recently renamed after footballing legend Ernst Happel. Located in the Prater district, which film lovers will know from Orson Welles' cuckoo-clock speech in 40's flick The Third Man, the arena has a capacity for 50,000 punters. However, this will be slightly upped for a certain get-together that's on the horizon - Euro 2008. Vienna will be hosting several group matches, a pair of quarter-finals, a semi and the grand final itself. In other words, the Full Monty. To get here, hop on the U-Bahn (underground) to Praterstern, then take tram 21. When the footie's off, the Ernst Happel Stadium doubles as a prime concert venue - Elton John, Robbie Williams and The Rolling Stones have all let rip with Ernst. | |
