If you leaf through Baedekers guide for 1900, you'll find that Jungmann and Neffe gets a mention. In those days business was booming. Not only were there the Austrian aristos, but Poles, Czechs and Hungarians too. The latter three are now penniless after the Cold War shipwreck, and as the owner here bitterly laments, the coming of Gucci and Versace has knocked a few old time tailors for six. Jungmann and Neffe remains a decent place to buy a 007 tie, and what with the West's hippest rock stars now sporting tweed, a renaissance could be on the cards for the bespoke brigade. May the force be with you!
